BARACK OBAMA

The So-Called Chairman's Language Is Confused

During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on trying KSM and other al-Qaeda terrorists, Chairman Patrick Leahy just made a reference to the "so-called blind sheik trial."

Is there any dispute that Omar Abdel Rahman is a blind sheik?

Mary Katherine Ham noted that Leahy said the detainees "committed murder," which, if their guilt is already established or if the verdict is predetermined, raises the question of why we're having a trial.

UPDATED: Sen. Jeff Sessions, the ranking minority member on the committee: "The U.S. court system was not designed to try unlawful enemy combatants . . . These are not normal defendants . . . The enemy that could have been blown to bits one day and is captured the next does not then become a common American criminal."
