HORSERACE
Petraeus Tells Duncan Hunter That Iranian Arms Shipments Increased, But Quds Force Has Departed
House Armed Services Committee member and GOP presidential candidate Duncan Hunter, widely respected, but rarely named as primary voters’ first choice, may never get a bigger audience than he gets today during the first House hearing with Gen. David Petraeus.
His final question to Petraeus was regarding Iran’s shipments of weapons across the border: Has the flow increased or decreased as the surge progressed?
Petraeus (not an exact quote): We believe that it has increased, based on the number of IED attacks and to a lesser degree on rocket attacks. Hard to tell because there is a delayed effect between when they are shipped across the border and when used. There was a drop-off for a couple of weeks, but we do not see a sign of that abating. The [Iranian] Quds Force have been pulled out of the country, as well as Lebanese Hezbollah trainers who were used in assistance [by Iran].
