Obama Sees a Grassroots Reaction that Polls, Calls to Congress Don't Show

Unemployment's at 7.6 percent, the Labor Department reports.

To echo a point made in the Corner, with the economy worsening, you might think the public would be rallying for the stimulus bill. Obama even suggested as much in last night's speech: "So the American people are watching. They did not send us here to get bogged down with the same old delay, the same old distractions, the same talking points, the same cable chatter."

But in fact the opposite is happening.

Take your pick—CBS News, Gallup, Rasmussen, Quinnipiac—they're all heading in the same direction. And think of yesterday's report on the phone lines to Congress jammed with "angry" callers. People are growing skeptical. They want a better bill.
