BARACK OBAMA, HORSERACE

He Had Pawlenty of Time to Change His Mind

Up in Minnesota, there's a minor controversy over Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the possibility of him running for a third term. Apparently as a state legislator, Pawlenty was one of three lawmakers who introduced legislation limiting a governor to two terms.

First thought — the last two times I've spoken to the governor, he has seemed very divided on whether or not to run for a third term. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he decided not to run again, so the issue would be moot. But even if he did decide to seek a third term, he's being accused of . . . contradicting an idea he once had? A legislative proposal that never even reached a vote?

Second thought — Pawlenty introduced this legislation in 1995, guys. A lot can change in 14 years, including a guy's mind.

For perspective, back in 1995, Barack Obama had not yet been elected to any office.
