BARACK OBAMA

The Coming Tsunami of College Students for Obama

From a New Hampshire political consultant: "You know who shows up to a Republican event in New Hampshire. They're guys wearing flannel shirts, flannel hats and several days' worth of beard growth. When you go to a Democratic event, you see little old ladies with really short haircuts who are wearing anti-war stickers. When you see somebody outside of that showing up, you know something unusual is going on... Obama's got a lot of young people. Really young, I'm not sure that these people are even old enough for college, or old enough to vote."

Obama will win college towns "by ridiculously large margins," this consultant predicts. There are roughly 70,000 college students in the state. The Union Leader suggests that the number of absentee ballots isn't overwhelming, but if these statistics from 2004 hold up, may not many of them may need them: "State residents made up 53 percent of all freshmen enrolled in New Hampshire in the fall of 2004 who had graduated from high school in the previous year; 55 percent of all New Hampshire residents who were freshmen attended college in their home state."
