BARACK OBAMA

White House in Full Retreat on Gitmo; Gibbs Calls Closure Decision 'Hasty'

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't have the video. David Paul Kuhn of RealClearPolitics was the first to spotlight this jaw-dropping comment from the president's press secretary, Robert Gibbs:

"I think he'll say this tomorrow, that we've made some hasty decisions that are now going to take some time to unwind, and closing Guantanamo Bay, obviously, is one of those decisions."

Hey, you know who else thought the decision to close Guantanamo Bay was made in a hasty manner?

"President Obama is facing great challenges as he takes office and may have made a hasty decision to close Guantanamo Bay without addressing all of the repercussions, Sen. John McCain told CNN's Larry King Thursday night."

UPDATE: Apparently some are claiming that when Gibbs said "closing Guantantamo Bay" he meant "opening Guantanamo Bay." Uh, okay.
