JOHN MCCAIN
I Liked McCain's Speech; Seems Like My Readers Loved It
The instant verdict? That went pretty well.
Mary Katherine Ham noted that McCain's transgressions against the conservative movement are so obvious and blatant and known to the crowd, that he doesn't reallly need to go into any detail about them. And the speech was delightfully free of any, "I have respectfully disagreed with your hateful, racist, nativist positions, and will continue my struggle to enlighten all of you."
The speech was well-written and mostly well-delivered. (His voice actually wavered as he said, "It is a deep and unwavering love.") Patrick Hynes, McCain's web guy, just asked me what I think. I said, good, but I felt like it didn't quite soar. It went well, it did what it needed to do, conservatives are going to walk of the room feeling better about McCain than when they entered, but it wasn't quite a home run... Not sure what it was missing....
I note that by referring to "Senator Coburn," I guess it's not going to be Vice President Coburn.
UPDATE: Apparently I'm the skeptic, because my readers, so far, loved it.
