HORSERACE

Mark Kirk Clinging to 34-Point Lead Over Sen. Roland Burris

Obviously, it's very early, but a PPP survey for the 2010 Senate race in Illinois finds Republican congressman Mark Kirk beating or tying all Democratic challengers except state attorney general Lisa Madigan. (You may remember her as the Demi Moore lookalike during the Rod Blagojevich mess.)

However, the NBC affiliate in Chicago notes that a Madigan e-mail to supporters refers to how well she polls against current Democratic governor Pat Quinn — making a gubernatorial bid seemingly much more likely than a Senate run.

Mark Kirk ties State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and leads Rep. Jan Schakowsky by 2 percent.

And if current senator Roland Burris is the Democratic candidate, Kirk crushes him, 53 percent to 19 percent.
