FRED THOMPSON
Which Regions to Hit in South Carolina?
About two weeks ago, I spoke to a local official in the South Carolina Low Country, specifically Hilton Head Island, and he said that Giuliani, Romney, and McCain had been picking up support because they had been doing local events there, in Hilton Head, Bluffton, Sun City, Beaufort, etc. I wanted to ask Thompson if he had done things in that area, and whether he planned on going through that region again.
Team Thompson noted that last Saturday, the candidate Thompson visited The Land of the Sky Gun Show in Ladson at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds and that he had a meet and greet at Sticky Fingers in Summerville.
I would note Ladson and Summerville are actually north of Charleston, and quite a bit aways from the geographically bottom-of-the-state region I'm talking about. The region has a reputation for having a lot of transplanted yankees, but they're not liberals. Judging by how illegal immigration and taxes dominate the local political talk, I can't imagine that this is tough territory for Fred Thompson.
SurveyUSA puts the Low Country vote at Huckabee 34, Romney 20, McCain 14, Giuliani 9, Thompson 9, Paul 7. Statewide they put Huckabee 36, Romney 19, McCain 17, Thompson 11, Giuliani 9, Paul 5.
