JOHN MCCAIN

McCain Mentions Lebanon Attack in Ypsilanti Appearance

I’m listening to a John McCain event in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he deftly included this morning’s bombing attack on a U.S. embassy car in Lebanon in his usual remaks about how the next president will face foreign threats and crises that can arise, without warning, at any moment.

He’s followed by a few words Joe Lieberman, who declares, “too many people in Washington spend too much time thinking about the next election, and not the next generation.”

McCain's remarks and the event seem aimed at independents — the appearance of Lieberman, the pledge that "we will never torture again," "we will address global warming and require China and India to be included as well"... "No drilling in ANWR, nor in the Everglades, nor off the coast of Florida, nor off the coast of Florida... If states want to have drilling off their coast, as Louisiana does, that's their right. As a federalist, I will respect that as well."

"To think that drilling in ANWR is the solution to our incredible energy needs is frankly, is not keeping in the reality of what's there, and what it would take to get it out."
