I expect the bounce will dissipate, and the numbers will tighten at some point in the not-too-distant future... but 37 million viewers watching Palin and almost 39 million viewers watching McCain has an impact, according to USA Today: In their post-convention poll, McCain is up 4 among registered voters, and up 10 with likely voters...
Also note:
McCain has narrowed Obama's wide advantage on handling the economy, by far the electorate's top issue. Before the GOP convention, Obama was favored by 19 points; now he's favored by 3.
