FRED THOMPSON
Thompson addresses the Americans For Prosperity Virginia Delegation
This time I’m in the room Fred Thompson is addressing, and again, he seems better, more focused, more commanding of the room. Odd that the one TV star in the race is less compelling on a television.
On Jeri: “She’s getting more publicity than I am lately, and that’s just fine with me… I’m proud of her, and our two beautiful kids… Speaking of kids, we’ve got one under the weather, so if she runs out in the middle of my speech, it’s not because of something I said.” Heh. Might be kind of fun to see that line deployed against the Clintons.
“We need to focus on the bottom line… We should always remember that we should never signal that we are a weak-willed, divided nation. That will make this country a much more dangerous place for our children to grow up in… The average 20-year-old fighting in Iraq has a better grasp on what we need to do to protect the country than the average 20-year veteran political operative here in Washington D.C.”
“Part of our security is dealing with illegal immigration… For every one, we catch, there are three we don’t, and we live in the era of the suitcase bomb. You have to ask yourself why a terrorist would bother going trough an airport anymore.”
UPDATE: Video of all of the speeches at the conference can be found here.
He repeats the “we have sacrificed more blood” line.
