BARACK OBAMA

Trinity United Church of Christ vs. Wal-Mart

The Trinity United Church of Christ is currently boycotting Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, according to page 14 of the bulletin.

I wonder if that played into Michelle Obama's May 2007 decision to leave the board of directors of a major Wal-Mart supplier, Westchester, Ill.-based TreeHouse Foods. At the time, the stated reason was a lack of time to commit to her duties on the board, although some noted that Barack Obama had criticized Wal-Mart for its wages and benefits for employees.

UPDATE: From a sermon by Jeremiah Wright in the January 7 bulletin:

What we buy at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club does make a difference in the quality of life for people who live in Third World countries! Where we shop shows a gap between what it is we say and what it is we do. Let us march on with consistency!
