JOHN MCCAIN, MITT ROMNEY

Romney's Delegate Total in California... 6? 9?

So... guess how many districts it looks like Romney will take in California?

According to the Secretary of State's web site...

2 for certain.

A bunch of them are close - separated by only a few hundred votes — but with most districts having 100 percent of precincts reporting, Romney is ahead in District 21 and District 52. Beyond that, it's McCain, McCain, McCain, sometimes by only a percentage point or two.

In District 42, only a few hundred votes put McCain ahead, with 85 percent of precincts reporting.

Congressional district lines don't line up with county lines in California, but I would note that if this map is accurate and Mitt Romney only won three counties in California (out of 58) I would say the delegate outlook for him in the Golden State looks particularly grim.

Getting 34 percent of the vote is disappointing. Getting 34 percent spread out evenly instead of bunched up in a certain number of congressional districts, is even worse...

UPDATE: I should have credited Campaign Spot reader Will for calling the Calif. SoS page to my attention...
