HORSERACE

Concerns About 'Rook and Crook' In Virginia?

You might have expected this in the other state with a big governor's race, but I'm gold that the Virginia GOP is advising its team of lawyers that they're expecting a close race on "many levels." One of my guys tells me, "They seem genuinely concerned about rook and crook."

I'll have a more comprehensive look at Virginia's non-gubernatorial races shortly, but my first instinct is that there are a bunch of state delegate races that ordinarily would be out of reach for the Republicans, but that now could be extremely competitive if McDonnell is leading a surge for his party. Maybe those races come down to a few hundred votes or less . . . leaving more incentive, and higher stakes, for shenanigans.
