BARACK OBAMA, JOHN MCCAIN, HILLARY CLINTON

28 Percent of Hillary Voters Would Back McCain Over Obama

A McCainite tells me, besides the candidate's foreign policy speech, that this is the biggest news of the day, from Gallup:

· Clinton supporters who would vote for McCain over Obama = 28%

· Obama supporters who would vote for McCain over Clinton = 19%

“The data suggest that the continuing and sometimes fractious Democratic nomination fight could have a negative impact for the Democratic Party in next November's election. A not insignificant percentage of both Obama and Clinton supporters currently say they would vote for McCain if he ends up running against the candidate they do not support.”

Recall this next time you hear about "Obamacans", or how Obama has a better chance of unifying the Democratic Party than Hillary...

UPDATE: Many readers expect that a lot of these folks will be back on the Democratic candidate's bandwagon by November. That's likely, but the question is, how many? How many Hillary Democrats can Obama lose before McCain wins, and how many Obama Democrats can Hillary lose before McCain wins?

ANOTHER UPDATE: Drudge notes an upcoming Rasmussen poll that suggests 22 percent of Democrats think Hillary should drop out, and another 22 percent think Obama should drop out of the race...
