JOHN MCCAIN

Let's Have This Fight on McCain's Constitutional Eligibility

Right now it's the New York Times "raising questions" about whether McCain is eligible to be president because he was born at a U.S. military installation in the Panama Canal Zone.

Pollowitz highlighted the Chicago Tribune "driving a stake in the heart" of this argument.

But it's only a matter of time before the Sisyphian corners of the left will try to make a real issue out of this: Lefty bloggers will tout it, and perhaps some hyperactive lawyer will try to file a lawsuit. Maybe Howard Dean's DNC is feeling particularly feisty.

The proper response is, "go ahead, make my day, punks." Because the only thing better than watching the Democratic Party fight tooth and nail to establish that those born on military installations outside the United States to two American parents aren't natural-born U.S. citizens will be reminding the American people that the Democratic Party is the one who wanted to reject overseas military ballots in Florida in 2000.

But they honor the troops' service, I'm sure.

UPDATE: This is a great line: "Good thing McCain wasn’t born on February 29th, they’d be debating whether or not he is over 35."

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: There's no shortage of strong efforts to dismantle the argument - check out Bench Memos and RedState.
