JOHN MCCAIN

McCain To a Code Pinker at the NRA Gathering: 'We Beat You Today, We'll Beat You Tomorrow'

John McCain’s speech to the gathered NRA delegates hit all the right notes – “a group of big city mayors thought it was more important to blame gun manufacturers than to deal with the actual violent crime on their streets… Instead of increasing police patrols and tough sentences, they try to restrict gun ownership and limit the rights of law-abiding citizens.”

"Over the years, we haven’t agreed on every issue. I understand and respect your position." After saying they agree on keeping guns out of the ahands of criminals, McCain quickly segues to the “disgrace” that some of his colleagues in Washington are with their own criminal behavior.

"Americans have lost trust in their government, and that trust must be restored."

"MoveOn.org seems to be calling the shots in the Democratic party these days, and will have even more influence if their candidate reaches the White House. Imagine their ability to pick Supreme Court justices and the attorney general, and using that appointment power to push their agenda."

Another Code Pinker stands up when McCain mentions Iraq.  Two, actually, on opposite sides of the room. Now the “Taser!” snarks are coming from the press section, and not from me, honest.

McCain paces, grinning, as they’re escorted out. When he returns to the podium, he calls after them, “We beat you yesterday, we beat you the day before, we beat you the day before that, and we’re beating you today and we’ll beat you tomorrow,” garnering the applause of a very p.o.ed. NRA crowd. Seriously, the next Code Pinker who tries to disrupt this conference might leave with bruises. This is the third and fourth one, I’m told.
