BARACK OBAMA

Hillary's Fans Assess the Pfleger Video

It's a pro-Hillary blog, but the comment is worth noting — at TalkLeft, they ask, after watching Fr. Michael Pfleger's rant from the pulpit, "What Is Going On At Trinity Church?" As one commenter puts it, "If Trinity Church were a secret front group for the GOP, it couldn't do better."

(I'm actually really enjoying reading TalkLeft these days, as the we're-crazy-if-we-nominate-Obama tone reminds me of many of the Democrats I know personally these days. Note this assessment:

When the Wright controversy broke, the question that was asked was "why don't you leave the church", and the answer was:

  1. I didn't know
  2. Wright is retiring
  3. the Church isn't really like Wright, its like that nice new pastor who is going to replace him.
now, everyone who pays attention knows that the Church was Jeremiah Wright, but the media covered it up, and the GOP was more than happy to sit on it until it made sense to exploit it. And the person who raised the issue of what Obama's children are being exposed to got this exactly right, because that is one very effective way of tying Obama to this kind of trash talk. He can say he disagrees with it all he likes, and most people aren't going to believe him because this is what he has chosen for his children, i.e. that Obama wants his kids to believe that GOD thinks like these people.

I read that and think, 'hmm. Maybe I'm not as far away from some Democrats as I thought.' )

Note that after Jeremiah Wright gave his National Press Club speech, Pfleger "counseled Obama Tuesday morning" — at least, that's what Pfleger told a Chicago television station.

Pfleger's ties to Obama are pretty well known, but there are some additional details worth noting. Like the donations and state-funded grants:

One of those long-time supporters was Rev. Michael Pfleger, the politically active leader of St. Sabina Church. He gave Obama's campaign $1,500 between 1995 and 2001, including $200 in April 2001, about three months after Obama announced $225,000 in grants to St. Sabina programs.

But perhaps most notably is that in protesting a gun store, Pfelger told an assembled crowd, "We're going to snuff out [store owner] John Riggio," and "We're going to snuff out legislators that are voting against our gun laws." He later claimed he had no idea that the phrase "snuff out" was slang to kill.  My buddy Cam has followed Pfleger's comments about gun owners and sellers at length at NRANews.com.
