HORSERACE
No, Tim Griffin Is Not Returning to the RNC
A little while back, news broke that Tim Griffin was returning to the RNC.
Griffin, often described as a "Karl Rove protégé," served as research director at the RNC back in 2004, and he served as an interim US attorney in Arkansas before deciding not to seek confirmation to the post in the wake of the controversy of the US attorneys firing scandal.
Anyway - word of his move to the RNC is not true, Griffin tells me. In a phone interview today, he said he's not currently working on any campaign for any candidate; he's wrapping up work on one state ballot initiative. (He started his own public affairs and law firm in Little Rock, Arkansas, and mostly works with corporate clients.) He said he thought about returning to the RNC as a part-time consultant, but he ultimately decided against it. He noted that it would have taken a time commitment he just couldn't make.
"That sort of job takes a 110 percent commitment, and I just couldn't do it — it would have taken every free moment that I wasn't working, and I couldn't sacrifice that much time with my family. Four years ago when I was doing this sort of thing I didn't have an infant at home."
(Tell me about it.)
