HORSERACE

Almost One in Three Americans Has Never Heard of Romney or Thompson

According to the latest release from Gallup, 29 percent of Americans say they have "never heard of" Mitt Romney. Not just, "I don't have an opinion on him," (which got 15 percent), that's almost one in three Americans saying they've never heard of him. (Is it just me, or is that statistic something of an indictment of how many people don't notice who's on the cover of Newsweek or Time?)

Twenty-nine percent favorable, twenty-six percent unfavorable for Romney.

For Thompson, it's 33 percent favorable, 20 percent unfavorable, 30 percent "never heard of him." (!)

For McCain, it's 46 percent favorable,  31 percent unfavorable, 22 percent no opinion. Gallup did not list "never heard of him" as an option on their results.

For Rudy Giuliani, it was 54 percent favorable, 30 percent unfavorable, 8 percent no opinion, 8 percent never heard of him.

For Mike Huckabee, it was 18 percent favorable, 15 percent unfavorable, 17 percent no opinion, 50 percent never heard of him.

For Ron Paul, it was 12 percent favorable, 13 percent unfavorable, 15 percent no opinion, 60 percent never heard of him.
