Tom Harkin on His 'Steak Fry' Fundraiser: "This Is My Idea of a Surge"

Does anybody else cringe when reading this line:

"This is my idea of a surge," [Democratic Iowa Sen. Tom] Harkin said, looking out at the crowd assembled on lawn chairs, holding up signs for the candidates.

Is it too much to ask that candidates refrain from comparing their fundraising events to ongoing military operations? Really? I mean, isn't this in the same neighborhood as Romney's dumb comment about his sons working on campaigns, and shouldn't Harkin apologize?
