MITT ROMNEY

Romtimists May Want to Skip This Post

Romney’s campaign will go on, after tonight.

I’m sure this is not what his supporters want to hear, but… why?

Let’s look at all the states he really would have liked to have tonight:

Down 12 in Delaware, which I thought he would win.

Currently third place in Georgia.

Down 20 in Illinois.

Currently third place in Missouri. Eight points off the leader, Huckabee.

Third place in Tennessee, 11 points off the leader Huckabee.

Romney never made a push in the New York City metro area, and I’m not sure why. If he had gone up on the airwaves, made the stops, made his pitch… even if he only made a difference in the smallest state (Connecticut), he would have swiped 30 delegates that McCain really didn’t have to contest tonight.

He’s back 19 percent in Connecticut.

Back 28 percent in New Jersey.

Back 23 percent in New York.

To his credit, he’s currently winning Colorado, Minnesota, Montana and North Dakota. But unless he wins California, I think the delegate fight is going to look like a steep uphill climb tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: The night gets a little better for Romney - North Dakota in his pile.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Clunk! Minnesota falls in place. In a few moments, he's gone from having two expected states in his pocket to a brighter outlook with four.
